The Mayan ruins at Uxmal and the impressive Uxmal pyramid may not be the most popular site in the region - but they are considered the best by many. Uxmal was one of the largest cities of the Yucatán peninsula, and at its height was home to approximately 20,000 Maya. At the Uxmal ruins, one can see some of the finest and best-preserved of the Mayan art and architecture anywhere in the world.
The Loltun Caves, are an impressive natural underground dry cave network. They are said to be the largest dry cave system in the world. The caves have a fascinating history. Historians believe these caves were used for thousands of years by the Maya. Mayans have always considered caves to be sacred places and the entrance to the underworld. Within the caves, there are 145 paintings and 42 petroglyphs cataloged to date. Exploring this vast, expansive and breathtakingly beautiful cave system is an awe-inspiring experience.
When you visit a cenote, you will witness spectacular natural formations with crystalline waters and incomparable natural beauty. At these stunning natural swimming holes, you can immerse yourself in crisp, rejuvenating mineral-rich waters within magical caves or under a jungle-framed sky. The Mayans revered cenotes because they were a water source in dry times; the name cenote means 'sacred well'. Mayans settled villages around these spiritual wells and believed that they were a portal to speak with the gods.
